Delete your account and data

This page is about Plot, the garden planning app published by Edward Harden, trading as Plot. It explains how to delete your Plot account, exactly what is erased when you do, and the one record UK tax law requires us to keep afterwards.

Last updated: 15 September 2026.

Deletion happens inside the app and takes effect immediately. There is no request form to fill in and no waiting period.

If you would rather someone did it for you, or you have lost access to your account, email hello@plotapp.uk from the address you signed up with and it will be done by hand.

How to delete your account

  1. Open Plot and sign in. Use the app on your phone, or go to plotapp.uk/plan.html in any browser. You must be signed in, because deletion is the account acting on itself.
  2. Open the account panel. Tap your email address at the top of the planner.
  3. Choose “Delete my account”. It sits at the foot of the panel, under the subscription details.
  4. Confirm. You will be asked once whether you mean it, because this cannot be undone. Confirming deletes the account and everything listed below straight away, and signs you out.

There is no cooling-off window and nothing is held in a recycle bin. When the screen returns to the sign-in form, the data is already gone.

If you subscribed through the App Store, cancel that subscription first. Apple owns it, not Plot, so deleting your account here does not stop it renewing. Cancel it in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad. You can still delete your account whether or not you cancel.

What is deleted, and what is kept

DataWhat happens on deletion
Your email address and password Deleted immediately.
Your garden plan — the plants you chose, your postcode area and climate zone Deleted immediately.
Your journal entries and the jobs you have ticked off Deleted immediately.
Your frost warning subscription — the push address your browser issued, and the approximate location derived from your postcode Deleted immediately. No further notifications can be sent.
Your subscription If you subscribed on the web, it is cancelled. If you subscribed through the App Store, deleting your Plot account does not cancel it — Apple owns that subscription, so cancel it in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad, or it will keep renewing. Either way, deletion does not produce a refund for time already paid for; refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Feedback you sent through the app The message text is kept, with your email address and the hashed record of your connection removed, so it cannot be traced back to you.
Payment records Kept for six years after the end of the relevant tax year, which is what HMRC requires of a UK business. Identifying details are stripped out, leaving only the amount, the date and the payment processor's reference.
Web server and database logs Held by our hosting and database providers under their own retention periods, typically days to a few weeks, then discarded. Plot keeps no separate copy.

In short: everything that identifies you goes immediately. The only thing that outlives your account is a stripped-down financial record with no name or address attached to it, kept because a UK business is not permitted to throw its accounts away.

Deleting some things without closing your account

You do not have to delete the whole account to get rid of most of it:

For anything not covered above, email hello@plotapp.uk. Under UK GDPR you also have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected, and to object to how it is used — the privacy notice sets out those rights and how to exercise them.
